From one of the leading makers of HIGH Quality, vintage era (and older) glassware .... Anchor-Hocking - began manufacturing in 1905. Their well-known and well-loved brand, FIRE-KING was released in the early 1940s ... often producing and releasing similar or even the same products .... sharing graphics as well …

Offered here is a RARE - Hard-to-Find – VINTAGE Anchor-Hocking Fire-King - Nesting PAIR of Round, COLOURED Opal-White Milk-Glass, Drop-Bottom Mixing-Bowls - Orange – Small-6-IN; Green – Medium-7-IN - in most-excellent barely-to-gently-used condition.

The exterior surfaces have a shiny, satiny-finish (as manufactured) with no chips, cracks, nor flea-bites. There are no significant scratches, rubs nor hazing – just a few incidental marks. The colour fades or thins towards the base, at the level where the drop-bottom begins - as made. There is a bit of wear in the top-coat colour on the base seat-rims, as one would expect, from rubbing in counter-tops.

The interior surfaces are highly-glossy, shiny and clean – just some incidental contact marks. The glass is quite milky and translucent - fabulous life to it.

The design of these Mixing-Bowls is ICONIC to ANCHOR-HOCKING. The top edge has a beaded rim; the sides are steep and slightly taper to where they steeply, TAPER-IN to the bottom - referred to as a Drop-Bottom.  I believe that this set may be from the late 1960s-70s possibly as molds were used for several years by major producers.

Small - Orange 6-IN Mixing-Bowl -

There is a quarter-sized mark in the glaze, towards the base - not sure if it’s from manufacture or not. The colour of this Small Mixing-Bowl is Orange-Sherbet.

This Mixing-Bowl is marked concentrically - "OVENPROOF; MADE IN U.S.A.; 12; "Boxed-Anchor" LOGO; 41".

This Mixing-Bowl measures - 6 1/8" in diameter, across the top edge x 3 1/8" in height; the base seat-rim diameter measures 2 3/4".

MEDIUM - Green 7-IN Mixing-Bowl –

There is some milk-glass swirling visible in the interior. The colour of this Medium Mixing-Bowl is Mid-Avocado-Green.

This Mixing-Bowl is marked concentrically - "ANCHOR HOCKING; MADE IN U.S.A.; "H-over-Stylized-Anchor" LOGO; 11; Fire-King; OVEN-PROOF".

This Mixing-Bowl measures - 7 1/4" in diameter, across the top edge x 3 5/8" in height; the base seat-rim diameter measures 3 1/8".

SOME INTERESTING INFORMATION –

Anchor-Hocking -

Anchor-Hocking began in a facility which produced glass since 1863 and formed by the merger of two major companies - "Hocking Glass" est 1905; "Anchor Cap & Closures" - in 1937.

Anchor-Hocking – Back-stamp, LOGO -

Anchor-Hocking Fire-King products have varied in information, script, and case, embossed on their bases, from the 1940s until now. Molds were used until the embossed information needed to be updated or until the information was no longer legible.

The stylized "H-over-Anchor" LOGO - introduced in 1937 -  was phased-out for the "Boxed-Anchor" LOGO by 1977 - the new logo began to appear in 1968 -  BUT - it took a while for all molds to be replaced with the new embossing. Not all pieces were embossed with a logo. The “Stylized – “H over Anchor” LOGO” re-appeared in print, in the 80s – perhaps.

Anchor Glass Container Corp. changed the LOGO to the “Mirrored “G” anchor” mark in 1990 – while a PA plant continued with the “Boxed Anchor” mark until 2005. The “Mirrored “G” anchor” mark looks like a mirrored reflection of two “G’s” or “J’s” – while in fact is a stylized “AG” mark to resemble an anchor.

Nesting Mixing-Bowls -

Anchor-Hocking Nesting Mixing Bowls came in a wide array of glass types (clear glass, coloured-clear, milk-glass, coloured-milk, patterned glass), mold-shapes (round, flared, teardrop, plain or with handles) and glass decoration (with or without graphics).

Nearly ALL of their nesting mixing bowls were sold in 3-bowl, 4-bowl and 5-bowl sets – extra-small; small; medium; large; extra-large. Some bowls were sold separately as well.

DROP-BOTTOM ROUND Nesting Mixing-Bowls -

Drop-Bottom Round Nesting Mixing-Bowls were released in ALL-WHITE, Crystal-Clear Amber; Two-Toned (or Fade), and Multi-Colour complete sets.

The form of these Drop-Bottom Mixing-Bowls with steeply, TAPERED Bottoms (or Drop-Bottoms).

Multi-Coloured

Multi-Coloured – Solid-Colour

The design of these Mixing-Bowls is ICONIC to ANCHOR-HOCKING. The top edge has a beaded rim; the sides are steep and slightly taper to where they steeply, TAPER-IN to the bottom - referred to as a Drop-Bottom.  I believe that this set may be from the late 1960’s-70’s possibly as molds were used for several years by major producers.

Multi-Coloured - Drop-Bottom Round Nesting Mixing-Bowls – were probably released to compete with VINTAGE PYREX, Solid Colours, Primary-Colours Round Nesting Mixing-Bowls available in the market at that time – however these Anchor-Hocking Fire-King pieces and sets are far more difficult to find.

These Coloured Drop-Bottom Round Nesting Mixing-Bowls were made in 3, 4, 5-Bowl Mixing-Bowl sets.

The Colours were consistent, by size -

Extra-Small, 5”, YELLOW-GREEN;

Small, 6”, ORANGE-Sherbet;

Medium, 7”, Mid-Avacado GREEN;

Large, 8”, Primary-YELLOW

Extra-Large, 9” – not sure if made or what colour it would have been.

Processing Blankets, Once in Hand -

All Blankets are washed in Wool-Safe Laundry Detergent; dried on warm heat, until dry; photographed from both sides; folded and bagged loosely, then placed into a storage cupboard having cedar shingles throughout the cupboard until sold.

There are videos and web-sites on line which explain how wool items can be re-stretched to their proper shape or size (or closer to) – as shrinkage happens when washed and dried.
