Thomas Cartier (1879-1947) was a French prize-winning sculptor best known for his animal sculptures in the art nouveau style.   This is a wonderful statue of a great dane or French matiff (both wear the 'biggest dog' attitude that this one shows on her face).   20 pounds, 19" long; 12" high.  Lots of detail.  I have seen half-sized versions of this statue for about a thousand dollars.  We acquired this one at a high end antique show in Sarasota in 1994.   Neta took it home when she closed her own store in 2000.

It is a large, impressive piece.  Ideal for a mantle, credenza, sideboard,   Great detail (note the collar, the foot pads, etc.), and lots of personality.   Not just a statue of a dog.   0041 D 435
