with on the matrix the family coat of arms of the famous Dutch poet, writer and historian

often abbreviated to: PC Hooft

and in English known to be written as: Peter Cornelius Van Hooft

he lived: 16 March 1581 Amsterdam - 21 May 1647 The Hague,

on 31 March 1636 he was appointed as 

Knight of the Order of Saint-Michel by King Louis XIII of France

- insigne de l'ordre de Saint-Michel, un ordre de chevalerie, par Louis XIII Roi de France -

that allowed him to add the french lilies / fleur de lis to his coat of arms,

if you look closely you can find the lilies on his scarf hanging at the back of his neck,

of course his decendants were allowed to use the same coat of arms, but because of the material used, namely iron, we date this stamp as 17th Century and therefor it stands a chance to have been owned by P.C. Hooft himself

familiewapen Hooft, in rood een zilveren manshoofd met gouden haar, omwonden met een groene laurierkrans, waaraan in de nek een blauwe, hier met zilveren lelies bezaaide, strik met twee afhangende linten. Deze koninklijk lelies zijn het gevolg van een adelsbrief aan P.C. Hooft door koning Lodewijk XIII van Frankrijk, tegelijk met de orde van St. Michel in 1639 verleend, als blijk van erkentelijkheid voor zijn werk Het Leven van Hendrik IV, de vader van de koning. Pieter Corneliszoon Hooft, zoon van Cornelis Pieterszoon Hooft en Anna Blauw Jacobsdochter, geb. 10 Maart, 1581, Ridder; wierd in 1609 Drossaart en kastelein van Muyden, Baljuw van Naerden en Goyland, Hoog-Baljuw en Dijkgraaf van Weesp en Weesperkarspel en Hoogbijlmer; trouwt eerst, in 1610, Christina Cath. van Erp, Aertsdochter en Greertruy Willemsdochter Baers, geb. 1592. Zij overleed  6 Junij, 1624, en had bij hem 4 kinderen, die allen jong stierven. Hij hertrouwt 30 Nov. 1627, Leonora Hellemans, geb. 1595, dochter van Arnoud Hellemans en van Susanna van Surck, Jaspersdochter en weduwe van Jan Baptist Bartolotti van den Heuvel tot Beichlingen. Hij was een Nederlandse dichter, proza- en geschiedschrijver. P.C. Hooft wierd, den 31 Maart 1639, door Louis XIII, Roi de France / Lodewijk den XIII^e, Koning van Vrankrijk, met de Ridderorde van St. Michiel vereerd, en zijn wapen vercierd met een blaauwen sluyer, bezaaid met gouden Leliën P.C. Hooft overleed in 's-Gravenhage 21 Mei 1647. Hij liet uit zijn tweede huwelijk 2 kinderen na.
