This is a rare March 1956 "Playgoer" playbill from the Pre-Broadway engagement of the NORMAN ROSTEN play "MISTER JOHNSON" at the Walnut Street Theatre in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. (The production would open March 29th, 1956 at the Martin Beck Theatre in New York City and run for only 44 performances.) ..... The play starred EARLE HYMAN, WILLIAM SYLVESTER, GABY RODGERS and JOSEPHINE PREMICE and featured LAWRENCE FLETCHER, THAYER DAVID, RUTH ATTAWAY, ROSETTA LE NOIRE, JOHN AKAR, JAMES E. WALL, BROCK PETERS (in what would be his Broadway debut), CHARLES McRAE, RAI SAUNDERS, EARL JONES (father of JAMES EARL JONES), MILTON J. WILLIAMS, LA VERNE FRENCH, DAVID BERAHZER, MARJORIE JAMES, CLAYTON CORBIN, PHILIP HEPBURN, JAY RILEY, HAROLD NURSE, PERCIVAL BORDE, CURTIS JAMES, SAMUEL PHILLS, GEFFREY BIDDEAU and ALPHONSE CIMBER ..... CONDITION: With the exception of the date written on the front cover, a small tear in the outside edge and moderate creasing, this playbill is in excellent condition and will make a wonderful addition to the collection of any theatre aficionado or historian.
