ORIGINAL HENRY MAXWELL 8 DOVER ST LONDON W SHOE CARE LEATHER BOX

This is really a wonderful original. Fresh from a local estate of a very wealthy family this is a great original box.  My guess is it dates to around the first half of the 20th century but I dont know exactly.  Made by the important Bespoke shoe and boot maker Henry Maxwell of London England.  The box measures 13 1/4 x 10 1/2 x 9 1/2 inches.  Inside has 2 side pockets on the outside probably for brushes and rags as well as 2 straps on the inside of the cover.  Overall the condition is a little rough but considering the age it is actually in pretty good condition.  The brass buckle is working great.  The leather handle on top has broken from lots of use over time and could probably be replaced or repaired.  The brass buckles that hold it are still in excellent condition.  There is some obvious wear to the leather in many areas particularly the hing of the lid as well as the edges.  The strong stitching has kept it strong but you can see the leather edges with all the scuffing.  Some staining to the leather as well but it really looks good and adds to the look of the box.  Really just some cleaning and conditioning and this would make a great display box.  The front of the box shows a faint impression of a monogram of JBH.  I have tried to find another example of a box like this.  None I can find.  They do make new ones that are not like this.
