This is one of only four built to index number 408R. The other eight heavy haulage Super constructors (all of which ended up in Pickford fleet) had left hand drive and Leland-Albion 0.900 engines. Two of the four went to Messrs Sunters of Northallerton and two to British Shipbuilders. This is the second of the Shipbuilder’s tractors, and it started its working life in the Cammell-Laird yard at Birkenhead working with a 250 ton electrically controlled trailer built by Cranes of Dereham. A 2 cylinder three-phase generator set by Ruston & Hornsby was mounted in the ballast box and powered the trailer through the Nipham sockets still visible by the coupling.
In 1977 the tractor was registered for the road and sent north up the M6 to the Vickers yard at Barrow-in-Furness to join its sister tractor (chassis 15067; JEO 672) working on the Trident Submarines and was finally withdrawn from service in 1982.
