21" IN BRONZE MAIDEN CARRYING WATER JUGS BY DOMINIQUE ALONZO
Dominique Alonzo was active as a sculptor between 1917 and 1926.  A young woman carrying two water jugs down a flight of stairs.  She is wearing what I interpret as medieval dress, but what do I know, and why dress up to carry water jugs down stairs.

This particular piece was modified as a lamp (a night light). There are mirrors at the bottom of each jug.  A small chandelier bulb was installed on the inside of the statue so that the light reflected on the mirrors.  When we bought it (at a Sarasota antique show in 1993) it had the old style woven- silk-covered electric cord in deteriorated condition.  I replaced the wire that was outside the sculpture.  I changed the bulb once - but to do it you have to take the bottom apart (unfasten the threaded tubing that holds the interior cord and the socket).  It is probably not worth the effort, as it is useless as a night light anyhow.  You could only see the light when you walked past it because the mirrors were deep in the water jugs.  It is a really great piece of sculpture, though.
