Thank
you for visiting the Sandbag and Lamp Veterans Shop. Over the last 3 years, our
Oath of Allegiance frames have been dispatched to British military veterans all
over the world and we even have one hanging in Buckingham Palace Mews. Each
Oath is handmade in its entirety - we build our own high quality box
frames, cut our own mountboard and use only official MOD licensed Cap
Badges. With crisp, clear print on specialist high-quality textured paper, we
insert the name and enlistment details to make the Oath truly personal to you
or the recipient of the gift. This is finished off with a gleaming,
hand-polished shilling and the unit stable belt colours. Finally we use a
elegant facsimile in the style of the Monarch’s signature. The overall size of
the frame is 30cm x 40cm.
The
Oath of Allegiance and the Sovereign's Shilling
Our
original, personalised Oath of Allegiance with Sovereign's Shilling is a
beautiful, quality gift or keepsake for any former or still serving sailor,
soldier or airman. It is a perfect way to mark a new member of the military
family's passing-out ceremony or as a leaving or dining-out gift. The
Sovereign's shilling, sometimes called the King or Queen's shilling, is an
historical slang term referring to the payment of one shilling given to
recruits to the Armed forces in the 18th and 19th centuries, although the
practice dates back to the end of the English Civil War. To "take the
shilling" was to agree to serve as a sailor or soldier in the Royal Navy
or the British Army and the term is still used informally.
Delivery
Time
Please
remember that each Oath is hand made to order by a military veteran, from
the frame to the ribbon to the hand polished shilling. Making an Oath for a
fellow brother or sister is our pleasure and that is why they look so
good - quality takes time.
Dispatch
Times
We
try to dispatch all our Oaths within 15 -20 working
days or around 4 weeks so please allow at least that
time to pass before contacting us for delivery updates. At busy
times like Father's Day and Christmas, things can take longer so please order
early. Each Oath is individually handmade, they are not mass produced. We
sometimes need to order in Cap Badges for units that no longer exist so please
bear in mind this can delay production. Along with everyone else, we are
also being affected by COVID from delays by suppliers to who can come in to
work. We therefore ask you to be patient and thank you for your
understanding. If you need your Oath
for a particular date please order early and speak to us about the delivery
date.
Returns
Each
Oath is handmade to order and packaged as carefully as we can. They all leave
here in perfect order but if you receive yours and it has been damaged in
transit or there is a problem with it, we will do our best to sort it out.
Please just get in touch and send us a photo of the damaged item. For damaged
items, if it needs replacing, or you want a refund we will agree that with you
but depending on the issue you will need to return either the full frame
or the metal badge and coin or just the coin to us. Please send it tracked
mail and we will refund you up to the cost of 2nd class tracked and signed for
post based on Royal Mail prices. If we are correcting an error made by you when
you've ordered, we may ask you to purchase additional postage to cover the cost
of returning the corrected item to you.
If
the item is in good order and there is no mistake then we don't offer a refund
as the Oath has been made specifically for you and cannot be used elsewhere.
However, we will always do our best to help so if you do have any concerns,
please just get in touch.
