Shrub or small evergreen tree about 1-3 meters tall typical of the Mediterranean scrub. It has greyish bark and leathery, opposite, linear, dark green leaves, about 50-80 mm long. The small flowers are white in color and collected in clusters. The fruits are small spherical drupes, fleshy black when ripe, similar to olives but smaller. Pedoclimatic Requirements It adapts to any type of soil, even difficult and dry ones as long as it is well drained. It resists very arid and hot climates. It prefers exposure in full sun or partial shade and resists wind and salt. Partially rustic species, it tolerates low temperatures down to -6°/-8°C, as long as they are not persistent. Due to the beauty of the foliage and its resistance it is ideal for all Mediterranean and temperate steps. Very suitable for the creation of both free and topiary hedges, it can also be used in association with other bushes to create patches.
