Vintage ROYAL DOULTON BATEMAN

ANGRY GOLFER MUG  circa 1930's

a great Collector's Item !

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

H. M. Bateman was a popular British cartoonist,

well known for illustrating overreactions to social

faux pas, as is illustrated on this Royal Doulton mug.

A very angry golfer is shown kicking his golf bag,

much to the delight of the onlookers.

The Doulton family started making stoneware goods

(tableware, pipes, and sanitary fittings) in 1815, later

enlisting local artists and art students to design the

incredibly popular pieces.

Doulton was granted the Royal Warrant in 1901 by King

Edward VII, and continues to make fine glassware to

this day, now a part of the Waterford Wedgwood family.
