1940s GEORG JENSEN Inc STERLING & LUCITE FRUIT KNIVES in Presentation Box

Acquired From an Old Benedict Canyon Estate

This handsome set of 8 Sterling and Lucite Handled Fruit Knives is from the the original Georg Jensen shop in New York operated by Frederik Lunning, a prominent figure in the history of Scandinavian Design who operated the shop through an agreement with Jensen. In the 1940's, Lunning began to expand the business into utilizing other makers as WWII prevented the exportation of goods overseas - and silver was scarce.  Nevertheless, the popularity of Georg Jensen wares were ever popular, and considered an exquisite example of the best silver goods available - These items are referred to as New York or INC pieces by collectors. The original presentation box containing these knives carries the Georg Jensen, Inc - New York Impression.

There are 8 knives in this set and they appear to have never been used - packed away in a dining hutch for decades!  Each knife features a sharp 3-1/4" inch stainless blade set into a heavy 1-1/4" marked sterling collar joining to a 1/2" diameter clear Lucite handle with a pound sterling end cap.  Total knife length with handle is 7" inches.  The lucite, sterling, and stainless components are in excellent condition.  The original leatherette covered presentation case is sound and in very good condition but does have white discolorations on the bottom.
