Henry Van Wolf was born in 1898 in Regensburg, Bulgaria Germany, and died in California in 1982. Van Wolf was president of the San Fernando Valley Artists Guild in 1953. He resided in North Hollywood for many years where he created a number of well known sculptures, such as "Olivia De Havilland", "Will Rogers", and "Happy Family".  Van Wolf also produced sculptures and metal works which can be found throughout California and around the country in public and private buildings including the Van Nuys Mall.  His works can also be found among the gardens of the Crystal Cathedral, in Garden Grove, California.  He created the "Good Shepherd" statue for the Crystal Cathedral which took three years to sculpt in the late 1950s and has stood on church grounds since 1964.  This life-size bronze statue of Jesus Christ shepherding four grazing sheep resides in a quiet corner on the grounds outside the cathedral.  The "Good Shepherd" statue is the church's oldest and, to many churchgoers, most beloved sculpture.
