The 1932 Washington Quarter was created to commemorate George Washington's 200th birthday. In 1976 the Treasury launched a contest to select a new reverse for the Bicentennial Quarter.
The winning design was by Jack L. Arh.
Except for the dating "1776-1976" the obverse of the coins remained unchanged through their entire mintage.
In 1977 the Washington quarters went back to their original reverse design.
From 1932-1964 quarters were made of 90% silver and 10% copper, each weighing 6.25 grams.
From 1965 to Date quarters have a pure copper inner core and an outer layer made of 75% copper and 25% nickel, each weighing 5.67 grams.
Coins, currency, and other items in photos which are not part of the description are shown as display suggestions and not included.
