Leaf From Sebastian Munster's Cosmographia, ca.1552

Up for auction is a rare original leaf (pages 935 and 936) from Sebastian Munster's Cosmographia, ca. 1552 edition, with a very early printed description of Lithuania, Livonia, Poland, Germany and East Prussia. It also describes the Teutonic Knights of Prussia and the Knights of the Sword of Livonia (present-day Estonia and Latvia). Includes two original hand-colored woodcuts-- one of a bull moose - and the other -- of a Knight of the Sword. The text on both sides of the leaf is in Latin. An extremely scarce item,

Sebastian Munster's Cosmographia is the earliest description of the world and countries in the German language. Between 1544 and 1628 it was published in German, Latin, French, Italian and Czech.

Condition: Very good condition. Printed on laid paper.
