With all the creatures in the sea, what would we be without the addition of some Octopi? While we do not have the terrifying Blue Ring or the wildly theatrical Mimic, we have some incredibly beautiful alternatives. The Caribbean Reef, Common Octopus, Atlantic Pigmy, and the White-Spotted, all call Florida home.

Florida also has some legendary tales from the Tentacled world… Tales of monsters, like the one about the corpse of a giant octopus, found on St. Augustine Beach in 1995. Videos of giant squids, like stuff from the tales of Vikings, in the Gulf. Rare deep-sea creatures, like the Blanket Octopus in 2017, that make an appearance every now and then. Just to remind us of what lurks just off the coast.

The fabulous Octopus can normally be found in the warmer waters of south Florida though they have been found in more northern locations on occasion. Stealthy creatures, no matter what water they are in, you can be sure they will be in full camo, hiding under rocks and in bottles. Carnivorous creatures, they are probably stalking out a crab or fish for their next meal.

The Octopus is a fascinating creature, and it is a work of art all in itself. I guess that is why so many people love to collect Octopus themed items...

A Florida tourist favorite, these Cowrie shell figures have been sold in many souvenir shops to many excited travelers. Sometimes stamped with the age-old "Florida" logo, they remind us of a time when a road trip down A1A, no matter how short, was everything.

This adorably handcrafted Cowrie shell Octopus makes a great addition to any collection!
