This DVD (and any other DVD released anywhere in the world) will play just fine on any multi-region DVD player, bought in USA or elsewhere. It will also play on most computers' DVD drives. Some consumers actually own a multi-region DVD player, without knowing it. All you need to do if you own such Philips, Akai, CyberHome or other DVD player is to use your remote control to switch it to multi-region mode. As such features are almost always not documented by the DVD player's manufacturer, we'd recommend you check your DVD player's capabilities by searching the web for the words 'videohelp DVD Player and Blu-ray Player region codes' and choosing the very first link found.
For our USA customers, if you need an advise for a inexpensive ($30-$40) US DVD player, please feel free to contact us or to read our recommenations here: Our DVD player recommendations. Please keep in mind that we do not sell DVD players.

This DVD does not contain pornographic material and may be lawfully sold to and viewed by minors.

Synopsis:
Both in 2006 and 2007, the Gay Pride Parade attempts in Moscow are violently beaten down. For many observers, the attitude towards the sexual minorities seems to be the litmus test of the state of democracy in Russia. In January 2007, for the first time in Russian history, a Russian leader, president Vladimir Putin mentions the situation of the LGBT community: He won't criticize the politics of Moscow mayor Yuri Lushkov, who forbid the event, but he is concerned about the demographic future of the country. And Putins opinion seems to be repeated by the right wing contra demonstrators on the streets. The film shows both the organizers of the Pride events and also the survival strategies of the majority Russian lesbians and gays, to whom the fight for democracy on the streets doesn't seem to be an attractive alternative.

Since the fall of the Soviet Union, Russia has been a nation that has rejected socialism but has yet to fully embrace democracy, and the notion of fair and equal treatment for all has yet to be realized, especially for the country's gay and lesbian citizens. While homosexuality is no longer against the law in Russia (as it once was) and Vladimir Putin has publicly addressed the issue of gay rights, during his tenure as mayor of Moscow Yuri Lushkov was outspoken in his condemnation of the city's GLBT community, and in 2006 and 2007 police used violence to break up gay pride marches under his orders. Filmmaker Jochen Hick explores the struggle for Russian gays and lesbians to win political, economic and social equality in the documentary East/West -- Sex and Politics, which features footage of Moscow's 2006 and 2007 Christopher Street Day parades that ended with police clashes and features interviews with the movers and shakers in the Russian Gay Pride movement. The film was an official entry at the 2008 Berlin Film Festival.

Documentary account of attempts to hold Gay Pride marches in Moscow in 2006 and 2007, and consideration of the gay scene in Moscow. Looks at anti-gay feelings in general society and in the political and religious systems, and possible collusion between the police and local neo-Nazi thugs in gay-bashing incidents.
