Synopsis:
From BAFTA winning writer Paul Abbott, comes a story of power, greed, corruption and lies on the streets of East London in the run up to the Olympic Games. Parminder Nagra (Bend It Like Beckham, ER, Albatross) is Deeva Jani, a successful, Paris-based fashion executive who is forced to return home to the UK when she receives the shocking news that her teenage brother Vipon, played by newcomer Sebastian Nanena, has been arrested for a fatal gang shooting in East London. As she and her family are vilified and the dead boy's violent family threaten retribution against her brother in jail, Deeva turns detective in an attempt to uncover the truth, prove her brother's innocence and save his life. Teaming up with youth worker and ex-gang member, Clint, played by Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood), Deeva soon finds herself up against powerful and unexpected adversaries including the corrupt but highly connected DCI Stone, played by Tony Award-winner Stephen Dillane (The Hours, SpyGame). As events unfold a deeper conspiracy is unlocked involving political corruption, media manipulation, prostitution, murder and power struggles way beyond London's street gangs, all the way to the heart of the government.

Set in pre-Olympics London (remember those giddy, carefree days?), this thriller, co-scripted by Paul Abbott, fails to generate that much contemporary relevance. When a not-all-it-seems shooting outside a nightclub sees her brother arrested, Paris fashion exec Deeva (Parminder Nagra) returns to her old London home to clear his name. With Stephen Dillane as a forceful and well-connected police detective, a far-reaching and dangerous conspiracy is uncovered. There's a good cast here, but it's hard to shake off the feeling that this would probably work better on TV, the subject matter being very familiar to those who like their drama delivered in episodes. It's a feeling not helped by everything being overlit and largely filmed handheld, making it all look very small-screen friendly.

A teenage boy is gunned down outside a nightclub and a young girl dies in a hit and run in two seemingly unrelated deaths. Deeva Jani, returns home to clear her brother Vipon of the shooting and soon discovers a much deeper conspiracy.
