«Сфера» — серия первых советских геодезических спутников, запускавшихся в период с 1968 по 1978 год. Они предназначались для создания единой системы координат поверхности земного шара, установления геодезических связей между континентами и островами, уточнения геофизических параметров Земли и конфигурации её гравитационного поля. Первый космический аппарат «Сфера» был запущен 20 февраля 1968 года и отработал на орбите 1 год и 3 месяца вместо установленного срока активного существования 6 месяцев.

На оригинальной марке изображён символический образ ракеты-носителя, запускаемой в космическое пространство; на основном изображении — первый спутник космической геодезической системы.


Sphere is a series of the first Soviet geodetic satellites launched between 1968 and 1978. They were intended to create a unified coordinate system of the earth's surface, establish geodetic connections between continents and islands, clarify the geophysical parameters of the Earth and the configuration of its gravitational field. The first spacecraft "Sphere" was launched on February 20, 1968 and worked in orbit for 1 year and 3 months instead of the established period of active existence of 6 months.

The original stamp depicts a symbolic image of a launch vehicle launched into outer space; the main image shows the first satellite of the Sphere geodetic system.
