Welcome to jewel*box :-)

A rare and unusual necklace with both clear cut glass pastes as well as beautiful marbled green satin glass to emulate jade. The clear pastes are faceted with table cutting to the top and with a point to the lower edge and the 'jade' glass is moulded. Each is ribbed on both sides giving a carved effect and the glass is very smooth to the touch. The necklace is decorated with three of the clear glass pastes, each being claw set in its own individual setting, interspersed with one of the 'carved jade' ones. the soft greens are set off perfectly by the sparkling clear stones.

The open settings allow the light to flood through and play with the facets to perfection. They are all hand linked to each other and are very fluid around the neck. The links are all closed (soldered) indicating that this was a very expenisve piece in its day. The necklace fastens with a secure ring bolt clasp and the jump ring on the other side is signed. It is very rare indeed to find a piece with a Maker's mark from this era.

The difficulty in identifying the mark is because only half of it has taken on the curved ring ie the bottom half of the word 'PLATINON' The intials of the maker are also present.

The riviere has been around for centuries and as it is a design that has never been bettered it will probably be around for centuries to come. Completely simple and perfect.

Just over 16.1 inches long which is a wonderful size for this age of necklace. A couple of little flea bites viewed under a glass but nothing imo to spoil this wonderful rare piece. The necklace has had a light clean but possibly could do with a little more. There is some residual dust and the end clear glass shows a slight green under the high magnification but i cannot see anything in real life.

A magnificent piece and of course would be perfect for a Bride on her special day. Much lovelier in real life as my photography is not brilliant and my camera adds a wash of grey to everything eg the cloth is a lovely rich clotted cream and not grey! Presented in a ribbon tied gift box as shown in the last image for perfect presentation.

A bit about me : i worked for many years in the Antiques Trade specialising first in antique clothing and Textiles and then i specialised in Art Deco and Art Nouveau, generally glass and sculpture and metal ware. i stood at many of the top fairs eg Olympia, Claridges, The Dorchester, The NEC and bought and sold in Sothebys, Christies and Bonhams. i appeared on TV a few times as an Expert, served on Vetting Committees and so on. i gave up the Material World for a number of years whilst i concentrated on Meditation, Healing and other Spiritual endeavours but am now selling on Ebay to pay the rent :-) i really do love the pieces that pass through my hands and i enjoy 'meeting' people across the globe and feel good making them feel good. i try to follow the Reiki precepts ~ one of which is 'To earn an honest living'.
