2x an authentic, antique, ritual water vessel / container from India, known as

Kindi

also known as

Kendi, Ghindi, Ghendi, Lota or Chambu with spout. 

Made of bell-metal (bronze alloy with a higher tin content)

both unadorned with decoration, showing their extremely elegance in form only, 

they have a flared and domed foot, flattened, spherical body, 

a high neck with double collar, to allow the top of the vessel to be gripped between the fingers, 

the long spout is very striking in it's form, it narrows and juts away from the body,

the small one seems to have some traces of gilding.

Because of the form, material, weight and patine we date these as 18th Century.

The large one has inscription on the inside of the foot, we think it is old Tamil script (see 6th picture)

The large one might have been used for water for a ritual wash of the feet before entering a home or temple,

the small one for Holy water during Pooja / Puja

condition: firm and good, authentic signs of age, use and handling

heights: circa 16 and 6,5 cm / circa 6.3 and 2.5 inch 

widths: circa 24,5 and 9 cm / circa 9.6 and 3.5 inch 

weights: circa 1153 and 152 gr.
