Title: Antique Indonesia Wood-Carved Balinese Temple Dance Figure. 


Description: An absolutely stunning wood carved Temple Balinese Dancer, intricately hand-crafted from a single piece of very dense 'Suar' hardwood (Samanea Saman), demonstrating excellent craftsmanship and artistry.

Carved in traditional Bali style, the figure depicts a Male performer engaged in Balinese Ritual Temple Dance, intensely expressed through bodily gestures of virtuosic movements, with the placement of the hands in an effortlessly motion. He is fashioned in a heavily embellished royal dance costume, elegantly decorated with intricately carved floral patterns throughout the garment. The dancers tightly matted hair is split down the middle and fashioned pulled up into two separate pig-tails. The features of the face are that of a youthful Bali deity, realistically portrayed with a benevolent nature, with vivid detailing of the eyes, nose, and well-defined lips.

An ancient traditional Dance of Bali, regarded as a form of worship and offering, within Temple ceremonies, performed by Balinese Dancers as a ritual story of dance drama or poetry, created by the soul, expressed through whole bodily gestures and movements. Balinese dance remains an intrical part of the religious and artistic expression among the people native to Bali, Indonesia.

Remarks: Pristine condition, preserved by a natural oil-based pigment re-applied from time to time, with the wood having normal minor cracks, chips, and dents, due to years of exposure to the elements and other deteriorating conditions. The right arm has an old repair at the shoulder, right hand thumb, and pig-tail hair(s) missing.
