The serpentine group consists of four species with the same composition but different properties:  antigorite, chrysotile, clinochrysotile and lizardite. Each of the species has multiple varieties. Bowenite is a variety of antigorite and is one of the more popular for carving and is usually called New Jade.

Metaphysical Properties:

Serpentine makes an exceptional meditation stone. It helps you to find inner peace. Serpentine was carried in ancient Assyria to request the gods and goddesses to provide double blessings. Nursing women used it to regulate their milk supply. Serpentine balances mood swings and encourages the ability to solve conflicts by peaceful means. Serpentine can be placed directly on the skin.
