Vintage colored pencil drawing entitled, "Red Ginger, Kaui Oct. 1978" by well-listed and collected artist, Beth Van Hoesen (1926 - 2010).  She is known for her colored etchings of nature scenes, such as animals and flowers as well as figural studies.  Her works hang in museums worldwide including the Museum of Modern Art, The Brooklyn Museum, Smithsonian American Art Museum, Portland Art Museum, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, Racine Art Museum, and the Art Institute of Chicago .

Van Hoesen was born in Idaho yet educated in a Connecticut prep school until the Great Depression necessitated a moved back to the West.  Her family settled in California, where she graduated from high school and attended Stanford University in 1944.  From there, she moved to Mexico City to study art at Escuela de Pintura y Escultura Esmerelda.  She then studied at California School of Fine Arts and received her BFA from Stanford in 1948.Upon her return to San Francisco, she studied with Clifford Still.  She married artist Mark Adams and opened a joint Art studio with him in 1956.  

Beth Van Hoesen is considered the preeminent printmaker f San Francisco, won many awards and accoades throughout her lifetime.
