What is fair trade and how does it help the community BAFTS We are proud members of BAFTS. The basic concept of "fair trade" is to guarantee a minimum price paid to the artisans we work with, all our products are hand made and hand-painted by our artisans. we adhere to the 10 principles of Fair Trade set out by the World Fair Trade Organisation, and we are working on becoming a member of the WFTO For artisans and workers, the standards include protection of workers' rights and the environment, for companies they include the payment of the Fairtrade Minimum Price and an additional Fairtrade Premium to invest in business or community projects of the community's choice. We are accredited and very proud members of BAFTS (The British Association for Fair Trade Shops and Suppliers). Fairtrade is a simple way to make a difference to the lives of the people who grow the things we love. Fairtrade is unique. We work with artisans, their workers have an equal say in everything we do, Empowerment is at the core of who we are. A world in which all producers can enjoy secure and sustainable livelihoods, fulfil their potential and decide on their future. Our mission is to connect disadvantaged artisans and workers with consumers, promote fairer trading conditions and empower artisans and workers to combat poverty, strengthen their position and let them take more control over their lives. Impact on the environment The Fairtrade Standards cover key areas for environmental protection, including energy and greenhouse gas emission reduction, soil and water quality, pest management, biodiversity protection, prohibition of genetically modified organisms and harmful chemicals and waste management
