This is a Finley Handwoven Collector Quality shoulder bag from the community of Santo Tomas Jalieza in Oaxaca. The colors are Green, Purple, White and Yellow with animal patterns woven into the fabric.  You can see Deer, Owls, Dogs, Rabbits with Guitars and other geometric patterns on this bag.  It is made of separately woven ribbon like strips of fabric that are then stitched then together.

It measures:  6 3/4 inches tall by 5 wide.  The strap measures 43 inches long and 7/8 of an inch wide.

This type of bag is made by the most skilled weavers in Jalieza, but they are time consuming to make, and unfortunately they are becoming rare due to the time and expense to produce one.   There is a flap at the top that ties shut with two braided ties with dolls at the ends.  This bag does have a purple cloth lining... (see photo #2)...  It is the perfect size for your passport!!!

The women from this community have been doing this type of weaving on a back strap looms for centuries (see 5th photo).  Their belts have been transported and traded with the Mayan Women of Guatemala from historic times.

When you purchase pieces that are made in Mexico you are helping to support these women save their cultural traditions and history.
