On sale here is an extremely rare copy of „The Republicans“, an Edwardian play by Charles Hermann Leibbrand, along with „specimens of Richard“, a fragment novel by the same writer - certainly of interest for any collector of literature of the era. The book was bound and published by Collins, Kew & Co in 1907 and features a blue half-leather binding, nine illustrations by Alec C. Ball, a portrait of the author as well as various complementary material (e.g. commentary by Leibbrand on the play itself).

What makes this copy absolutely unique, though, is that it contains a personal dedication to Lord Strathcona and a signature by the author. Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal GCMG GCVO PC DL FRS (6 August 1820 – 21 January 1914), known as Sir Donald A. Smith between May 1886 and August 1897, was a Scottish-born Canadian businessman who became one of the British Empire's foremost builders and philanthropists and an eminent figure in politics. Hence, this copy is a definite collector‘s piece.

Condition report: Some external wear to the binding, some light spotting to the edges. Internally, very clean. Overall, good to very good condition.
