A wonderful typed letter by the founder of the Bauhaus, a 'thank you' to a friend shortly after his 70th birthday, dated May 1953. The lot includes the original envelope.
The friend to whom the letter was addressed was Frau Mirka Noesselt. She was very likely the widow of the Bauhaus architect Heinz Noesselt. Noesselt had only enrolled for an apprenticeship at the Weimar Bauhaus in October 1923 but quickly rose to some prominence. In 1924 he designed a chess table to accompany Josef Hartwig's renowned Bauhaus Chess Set and a year later was a key figure in the Bauhaus's relocation to Dessau, partnering Hans Vogler in supervising the construction of the Masters' Houses. Please note that I have concealed part of the address in the scan out of respect to the original recipient's privacy.
