NGK® Laser IridiumTM Spark Plug (9DBEAD). NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs are often specified as original equipment because they offer the best combination of performance and longevity. The iridium tip is six (6) times harder than platinum, resulting in the highest ignitability and longest life possible. In DIS ignition systems, most Laser Iridium spark plugs have a platinum pad on the ground electrode for even wear. Designed by OE for specific vehicle applications.
A spark plug, which is designed to ignite the air/fuel mixture within the combustion chamber, must withstand the high temperature and combustion pressure found within the engine. If everything works properly, the engine will provide optimal performance, maximum fuel economy, and the lowest exhaust emissions possible due to effective combustion. To meet engine requirements, spark plugs are available in a variety of heat ranges and thread sizes. When selecting the right spark plug for your needs, there are several factors to consider, including thread reach, thread diameter, insulator nose projection, and whether the spark plug incorporates a gasket or is of the conical type.
When you buy these NGK spark plugs, you can be confident that they will meet or exceed OE quality and performance. They have a laser-welded iridium center electrode tip and a platinum disc welded to the backside of the ground electrode for superior ignitability and a slow wear rate for an extremely long service life. These plugs will provide faster acceleration, a more stable idle, improved fuel efficiency, and lower emissions for a lifespan of 80,000 to 100,000 miles.
Because of the triple-gasket sealing, the products are adequately protected from combustion gas leaking through the shell, whereas most other spark plugs on the market only have two seals. The spark plugs also have a virtually pure alumina silicate insulator to ensure dielectric and physical strength, as well as heat transfer away from the tip for maximum performance. These products are built with corrugated ribs to prevent "flash over," which can cause misfiring, and feature cold-rolled threads to prevent damage to the cylinder head and make installation and removal easier. Trivalent metal plating is also used on the products to provide superior anti-corrosion and anti-seizing properties.
