AEM® 6FC575 High Flow In-Tank Electric Fuel Pump. Water / Methanol Injection lowers air inlet temperature and suppresses harmful detonation in forced induction and naturally aspirated high compression gasoline engines, allowing for increased boost and advanced ignition timing for up to 20% more power. W/MI reduces AIT and improves combustion chamber cooling and efficiency in diesel engines, allowing the engine to deliver more power with less effort. The kit includes a boost referenced controller, heavy-duty high-pressure injection pump, water/methanol tank with low-fluid level sensor, injector, "boost safe" failsafe output, 20' nylon hose, wiring harness, LED dash light for system status and low fluid warning, hardware, and detailed instructions.
The W/MI system injects a highly atomized mist of water/methanol mixture into the intake air stream, where it evaporates. As the liquid transforms into a vapor, it absorbs heat, cooling the air around it by up to 100°F. As the inlet air cools, it becomes denser, delivering more oxygen to the combustion chamber. This allows for more fuel to be burned, resulting in more efficient combustion and more power.
On a gasoline engine, this effect reduces the possibility of engine-damaging detonation, allowing boost pressure to be increased on forced induction engines or timing to be advanced on naturally aspirated high-compression engines, both of which increase power. The water/methanol injection also produces a "steam cleaning" effect, which scrubs carbon buildup from the combustion chamber. Carbon buildup can result in hot spots, which can lead to detonation.
In addition to cooling the air inlet temperature, as water absorbs heat in the combustion chamber of a diesel engine, it converts to steam, and the expansion rate of the steam increases the cylinder pressure. The effective increase in cylinder pressure, combined with methanol's promotion of complete combustion, allows a diesel engine to burn fuel more completely, potentially increasing fuel economy. And, because the fuel is burned more completely in the combustion chamber, there is less in the exhaust manifold where it can flash, increase EGTs, and produce soot. W/MI eliminates secondary combustion, which reduces EGTs by up to 250°F and reduces soot formation, extending engine life.
The W/MI system consists of a tank to hold the water/methanol mixture, a pump, precision-machined billet aluminum injector(s), electronic controller, and all necessary hoses, wiring, and mounting hardware. The controller has large adjustment knobs, an integrated plug for harness connection, an integrated fuse, a covered status light and test button for enhanced splash resistance, mounting tabs, and an on-board MAP sensor. The internally bypassed pump provides continuous flow and consistent maximum line pressure output to promote optimal atomization of the water/methanol mixture.
