Offering an antique, German made porcelain, fairing trinket box.

These little porcelain boxes which were mostly manufactured in Germany for the English market, were given away as prizes at annual fairs in England from 1840 -1900.

Over the next century they became collector's items as they often represented current issues, newsworthy events and comic cultural impressions of the times. The word "fairing" may be a contraction of "fair earning" since they were prizes for efforts made.

This particular Victorian porcelain fairing trinket box features two children, a boy banging a drum and a girl walking her doll.

This fairing box measures and measures  3 1/2" across X 4" tall X 2 1/2" deep.

The porcelain has normal surface wear but no chips or cracks or repairs. The figures of the children are solid bisque and were left pure white and unpainted with only the ground at their feet lightly colored. Painted colors on base are still pretty and bright with minimal loss.
