Offering an antique, Conta Boehme, German made porcelain, Victorian fairing trinket box.

These little porcelain boxes which were mostly manufactured in Germany for the English market, were given away as prizes at annual fairs in England from 1840 -1900.

Over the next century they became collector's items as they often represented current issues, newsworthy events and comic cultural impressions of the times. The word "fairing" may be a contraction of "fair earning" since they were prizes for efforts made.

This particular porcelain fairing trinket box, features a little Dutch boy sitting on a log and holding the flag of Holland.

This fairing box measures 3" across X 4 1/2" tall X 2" deep. Conta Boehme shield impressed on base of top.

The porcelain has normal surface wear. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The painting is still excellent and fresh looking with even most of the gilding still present. A truly lovely piece.
