GEORGE WASHINGTON.  Small circular relic made of wood from the grounds of George Washington’s Mount Vernon estate bearing an encapsulated engraved portrait of Washington and his mansion on the recto and a label affixed to the verso that reads in part: “Washington, D.C., 14th Nov. 1859, I hereby certify that the picture-frame stamped From Mount Vernon, J. Crutchett, (to which this is attached), was manufactured at the ‘Mount Vernon Factory’ from wood grown at Mount Vernon, the home and resting-place of the immortal George Washington.”  It also mentions additional certificates that are no longer present from the proprietor of Mount Vernon, John A. Washington, and the mayor of Washington, DC.

Measures 3.25 inches in diameter and in very good condition with the encapsulated engraving on the recto detached but easily repairable and wearing to the verso causing loss to portions of the descriptive label.  An identical relic recently sold for $1,625 at Early American History Auctions in January 2021.
