Faceted Glass
The origin of faceted glass is not known. It is widely believed that the Russian faceted glass started to do in the era of Peter I in the town of Gus-Crystal. Faceted glass does not roll off the table if tipped over during the ship's pitching. Anyway, you can c safe to say that before the revolution, glasses and pile with the faces in Russia was already made

Design faceted glass Soviet-style credited to Vera Mukhina - the author of a monumental composition "Worker and Collective Farm Girl"; however, there is no documentary evidence of this. Simple faceted glass appeared much earlier - More on "Morning Still Life" Petrov-Vodkin depicts a 12-sided glass of tea, and this - in 1918. Some sources mention faceted glass Urshelskogo glassworks in 1914.

Ignatyevna fascinated by the glass at the end of 1940, at which time it was necessary to develop a form of glass for catering (handy for use in dishwashers, and along with more durable). "Mukhina" glass is created taking into account these requirements - a smooth ring, which is now on the edge of the circle, and distinguishes it from the traditional form of "simple faceted." According to another version, the developer of glass tumbler became Ural engineer Nikolai Slavyanov. In his diaries preserved outline glasses with 10, 20 and 30 faces - though he offered to make a cup of metal. Probably, they could see and Vera Mukhina, who was evacuated to the Urals, and then offered to make "the drinking cup" of glass.

Happy Birthday faceted glass is considered the September 11 and the first Soviet faceted glass was released in 1943, Russia's oldest glass factory in the town of Gus-Crystal. Dimensions classical faceted glass - 65 mm in diameter and 90 mm in height. Glass had 16 faces (also found instances with 17 facets, but 12, 14, 16 and 18 - the most typical amount, because, in terms of technology, to produce glasses with an even number of faces easier) and holds 250 ml of liquid (to the brim ). At the bottom of the glass was pushed out of his price (usually - 7, or 14 kopeks, "the 20-polyhedra" cost 14 kopeks).
