“SPRING STREET MUSEUM”

Print of Watercolor Painting

11 x 14 inches

This is a print of an original watercolor and ink painting of the Shreveport’s culture!!! My hometown boasts of many artistic organizations, galleries, and historical places!

HISTORY:

•The Spring Street Museum, located in downtown Shreveport, is the oldest building, dating back to 1866, and is placed on the National Register of Historic Places! It served as a bank in the late 1800s, and now serves as a fabulous museum showcasing the city’s rich heritage! From the tragedy of the yellow fever epidemic to the oil boom in the early 1900s, this museum is a must see! We credit the Colonial Dames for their hard work in the creation of the museum and placement of the architecture on the register.

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Kristi Jones was named after Howard Chandler Christy, who was a 20th century illustrator and distant relative. Kristi is also related to Clyde Connell, one of Louisiana's most famous female artists. Kristi developed an innate artistic ability from being raised in an artistic home, which had an art studio and library. Both of her parents obtained art degrees. Her father has placed (numerous times) in the top tenth percentile in state and federal duck stamp art contests, and her mother has sold work at a local gallery.

Kristi studied art at the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts (NOAFA), and is also self-taught. She has created mosaics and sold her tropical jewelry at the annual Red River Revel, and many other local festivals. Presently, she has turned to painting, and has sold work both locally and nationally. She has exhibited at shows and galleries, including several group shows in northwest Caddo Parish, including Centenary College's Meadows Museum of Art and Centenary's Magale Library, Artspace in downtown Shreveport, Smith Mason Gallery, and Shreveport Trading Company.

In December 2011, Kristi was awarded a visual arts grant from the Shreveport Regional Arts Council (SRAC), and became a Juried Roster Artist in 2012. In 2015, she was commissioned to create 29 paintings for the new University Medical Center of New Orleans. She is a member of Louisiana Artists, Inc. and the Hoover Watercolor Society. Most of her work depicts the flavors, architecture, landscapes and culture of Louisiana and the South.
