Junkers Ju 52 is a German-built aircraft, with three radial engines and a capacity for 17 passengers, produced between 1932 and 1945, by the company Junkers. Also known as Tante Ju (Aunt Ju) or Auntie Ju. It was nicknamed by Allied troops during World War II as Iron Annie. It is one of the most successful models in the history of European aviation. The first aircraft arrived in Portugal in December 1937, being used for night bombing, a situation that remained until the mid-1940s, when they were distributed to the Sintra and Ota Air Bases, being assigned in accumulation the transport mission . In 1956, the Parachute Troops were formed, integrated into the Air Force, being installed in the Parachute Hunter Battalion, next to Air Base nº3 (BA3). The JU-52s have since been used in launch and paratrooper training missions by Squadron 502.
