Bourns Replacement Rotary Encoder with push button ON-OFF for Yamaha SU700 - EC1 to EC12

The Yamaha SU700 is not for sale, only this encoder.

The 4-pin encoders made by Alps and sold under the Yamaha brand are not being made anymore. The location and functions of the Bourns encoder’s pins are NOT identical to the Alps by Yamaha encoder’s pins. You have to connect the encoders to the mainboard using wires. See photos.

The original Alps encoders were replaced with Bourns encoders, which are guaranteed for 30,000 cycles, twice more than the original Alps, which are only guaranteed for 15,000 cycles. Bourns has an excellent reputation for quality and is a professional audio supplier.

Soldering skills are required to remove your old encoder and solder in the new one. You will have to solder 3 wires connecting the 3 pins to the mainboard. You will have to prepare your own wires, based on your specific setup and needs.


I strongly recommend that you buy the full set and change all your encoders at once as there will be noticeable differences between the new parts and the used ones.

These Bourns encoders have a push option (ON - OFF) which can be used to expand the controls beyond the original functions, according to the needs of each user.
Use of the push option is not mandatory. These encoders can be used without wiring the push option.

The rotating shaft of the Bourns encoders is 3 mm higher than the original one, to accommodate the push option.

To use the push option you will have to manually wire 2 of the pins. You will also have to prepare your own wires, based on your specific setup and needs.

As an example, we can wire each switch to both the ON - OFF button and the corresponding individual track pad.

Or you can do something else entirely. It all depends on your imagination and on what you need to accomplish.
But all these possible modifications / hacks require solid electronics knowledge and skills.
