This interesting sheet is from the first imperial folio edition of one of the finest and most lavishly illustrated works on military history. The glorious campaigns of the famous Turkish warrior Prince Eugene of Savoy (1663 in Paris – 1736 in Vienna) and the 1. Duke of Marlborough John Churchill (1650 in Ashe - 1722 in Devonshire) and Johann Wilhelm Friso (1687 in Dessau - 1711 near Moerdijk) in the Turkish campaigns and in the War of the Spanish Succession. The Dutch battle painter Jan van Huchtenburgh (1647 in Haarlem – 1733 in Amsterdam) accompanied the Austrian Field Marshal Prince Eugene of Savoy on his campaigns from 1708 to 1717 and painted his battles in large cycles. Most of his works are now in the Galleria Sabauda in Turin.

The city was conquered during the Palatinate War of Succession from 18. until the 26th September 1694 besieged and finally taken. During the War of the Spanish Succession, the fortress was destroyed from the 15th Aug to 26 Besieged August 1703. The defenders were able to hold off a storm on March 25.
