Here on offer is a very fine example of a gilt brass metal winners plaque, awarded by RAF Fighter Command to the winner of the Open Power Event in 1955.

The ornate metal plaque has been mounted on a black early plastic or possibly Bakelite mount that has a hinged stand on the back, so it can be displayed in a cabinet or on a desk.

The plaque depicts an early monoplane in flight in the centre below a very finely detailed image of a RAF Fighter Command cap badge.

It has been professionally engraved engraved with the event details:

OPEN POWER
DURATION EVENT
1955

On the reverse of the black mount are the famous military award maker’s details in white lettering:

F. PHILLIPS
SILVERSMITH
ALDERSHOT

The same wording is printed on the lid of its original tissue lined cardboard shipping box in which it is contained.

The plaque is in just mint condition and looks to have been protected in its cardboard box for many years.

The mount measures 3.9” (9.7cm) by 3” (7.6cm) and it weighs 105g.

Please see my pictures for the details of the condition, which complement this description.
