What has upgraded in the latest Xiaomi 1S?

AI recognizing. The new technology helps the Xiaomi 1S to recognize rooms location by identifying the doors that lead to these rooms. Now you can schedule the robot to clean within a particular room at a specific time.

Room cleaning. Thanks to AI technology, the robot is able to identify different rooms. You can make it work in one or two rooms instead of the whole house.

Visual sensor. The 1st gen Xiaomi Mi Robot uses the LDS sensor to create a map. The 1S robot vacuum also has a visual sensor. The LDS sensor and visual sensor work together to create a plan that is more accurate than most of the robot cleaners build. Also, the LDS laser in the 1S scans the surroundings faster.

Three vs. four processors to track location. The Mi Robot has three processors inside that help it to track the position while the 1S is equipped with four processors which allows creating the map faster.

Powered by the next-generation processor. The Mi Robot vacuum is powered with the quad-core Conrtex-A7; the Xiaomi 1S is equipped with the quad-core Conrtex-A35 which lowers consumption by 10%. Thanks to the newest gen of the processor, Xiaomi promises to reach 40% better performance.

Mapping and navigation

The Xiaomi 1S has a new processor which helps to scan the room faster making the map right after the cleaning starts. It also calculates the way of cleaning faster and finds a way to avoid an obstacle more efficiently.

Because of these upgrades, the 1S finishes cleaning quicker than the Mi Robot.

As no navigation, the 1S has more sensors that work together to ensure better navigation and obstacle avoidance making the robot gentle with furniture.

Cleaning

Both robots have about the same cleaning mechanics. None of it is capable of cleaning medium-pile carpets but both do a good job on low-pile ones. Tho the 1S does it slightly better because of having stronger suction.

As to hard floor cleaning, the Mi Robot, and 1S do the job better than an average robot vacuum on the market.

App

The Mi Home has: (for the 1S) 

• No-Go zones. Keeps the robot off some areas.
• Zoned cleaning makes the robot clean within a specific zone.
• Room cleaning. You can order the robot to clean a particular room or two.
• Multifloor. The 1S stores up to 3 floor plans which makes it suitable for multi-level houses.

The Mi Robot lacks no-go zones, multifloor, and room cleaning. If you have a clean layout and don’t need to block the robot from going to certain places, the Mi Robot would be enough for you.

If you live in a cluttered place or just have some areas that need to be avoided by the robot, consider going with the 1S. It also can clean a certain room which is handy if you live in a big house and don’t need it to clean the whole place at once.

Both robots are lidar-guided. The Mi Robot has an old processor so map creating takes some time while the 1S maps faster. The MiJia 1S is also equipped with an optical sensor that recognizes doors location which further helps with room cleaning.

Each can be tracked in real-time which you can see in the app.

Both are capable of cleaning low-pile carpets but the 1S has stronger suction and performs better on carpets. Both do a decent job on hard floors as they have the same design cleaning brush and cleaning mechanics.

A large 5,200 mAh battery provides 2,5 hours of cleaning which is ideal for big homes. After cleaning, the robot returns to the dock to charge or resumes cleaning after recharging if it needs to finish the job.

The LDS laser ranging sensor is my eye, which scans the room at 5x360°/seconds to get distance information.

When the laser is projected onto the barrier, a spot is formed in my eyes.
