Jacob Heller, an American artist, retiree, and print maker who lived in Mexico City in the 60s and 70s sold his prints in the Bazar Sabado in the Saint Angel section of the city.

this is a message from a personal friend of his that new him “on making woodcut prints, and said that he found a set of beautiful pearl inlaid wood carving tools in Mexico, and that was what inspired him to begin creating his woodcut prints. The subject of his prints were abstracts from things typically Mexican, flowers like Hibiscus, hummingbirds, children's faces, Mariachi Musicians, and abstractions of the famous 'Pedregal' or lava floes and forms that one sees in the 'Pedregal' neighborhood (lava forest) in the southern part of Mexico City. “

“Mr Heller, in my opinion really did capture a good deal of the essence and spirit of everyday Mexican culture, folk traditions, and it's people.
