Here is a photograph of a Golf Ball Display. Changes in golf ball design have had a dramatic effect on the game of golf. It is thought that around 1600 the simple wooden ball went out of use, superseded by the spectacular invention of stuffing a hidden case tight with feathers. Then came gutta percha in 1848 and the feathery went out of use almost overnight. Rubber balls were relaively cheap and golf was able to become a mass sport.


This display at Gullane Golf Club shows the weird and wonderful variety of golf balls available over the years.
