George Grosz Teurer Makkaroni! by Karl Riha

Illustrated 1992 First Edition with Dust Jacket

George Grosz (1893-1959) was a controversial German artist known for his caricatures of capitalists, prostitutes, the Prussian military elite, and the middle class.  His works of the 1920s were influenced by the complicated political and economical situation in the Weimar Republic and the rest of Europe, and he was often in trouble with the law for offenses against public morality, insulting the army and blasphemy.
He moved to the United States in 1933 as his work was classified as Entartete Kunst or “Degenerate Art” by the Nazi German government of Adolf Hitler.  After he settled in America he changed the style and subject matter of his earlier work and taught for many years at the Arts Students League in New York and opened a private art school as well.

The book we offer here is part of a larger collection of German and English language art publication related to George Grosz purchased from the estate of a wealthy New York collector by the gentleman that we subsequently purchased them from many years ago.

This is a very nice, probably unread illustrated First Edition example of George Grosz Teurer Makkaroni! by Karl Riha published by Argon Verlag of Berlin in 1992 and printed in Germany, ISBN 3-87024-803-3.  The German language book contains the correspondence between Grosz and Mark Neven DuMont between 1922 and 1959.  The 6-¾ x 9-½ inch, 224 page blue linen hardcover has yellow blocking on the front cover and spine, and comes with its original dust jacket.  Looks unread, tight spine, no offensive odor.  Photo of actual book shown above (not a stock image).
