Young Guitar's August 2022 issue features John Petrucci on the cover and front cover. Dream Theater, a progressive metal band that won a Grammy Award this year and will headline "DOWNLOAD FESTIVAL JAPAN" in Japan in August, is full of topics... We catch up with the leader of Dream Theater at their studio DTHQ! Let's start with their latest release, "A V V".
First of all, we have a very long interview with the band's leader, conducted remotely, focusing on their latest album "A VIEW FROM THE TOP OF THE WORLD". Then, inside the studio, we succeeded in taking photos of the guitars, amps, and other equipment used for the album. Among them, the prototype of the 8-string guitar that was actually used for recording is shown for the first time in Japan! A video of John explaining each of these guitars will also be released on the day of the release. In addition, John will take you on a "DTHQ mini tour" of the studio himself! The tour will take you inside the "secret base" where Dream Theater bases its creative activities, including recording and rehearsals (scheduled to be released in mid-July).
The second special feature is "The 'Present' of Super-Deep Abyssal Prog Metal. Focusing on the "advanced" metal scene that has evolved from the original progressive rock, we will unravel its appeal. It includes interviews with four of the scene's leading guitarists, including Michael Romeo (Symphony X) and Richard Henschel (Haken), a collection of 80 classic prog metal albums, and a project on how to master odd time signatures and polyrhythms with the 8-string guitarist ISAO. Derek Sherinian, whose new album is now on sale, also makes an appearance. Don't miss the interview with Jason Richardson, who will soon release his second solo album.
