  • Intake System Test: An intake system is described for connecting a carburetor and a combustion chamber of internal combustion engines. Leakage in the air intake system will lead to insufficient intake of the car engine.
  • Crankcase System Test: The crankcase is the "body" that holds all of the other engine parts together. It's the largest part of the engine.Excessive pressure or corrosion of the crankcase is the main reason to damage the seal of the crankcase and cause oil leakage.
  • Various Pipe Fittings Test: Smoke testing of brake hoses, power steering hoses, cooling system hoses, air conditioning system hoses, turbocharger hoses, fuel hoses, intake and exhaust system hoses, etc. Note: Not applicable to air conditioning system piping.

Leak Status Indication ( Pressure Gauge + Air flow meter )

The SM603 leak detector can out put smoke within seconds and discover leakage holes as small as 0.2mm. Adopts the principle of isolated heat conduction, the smoke created from the machine is non-toxic.

System Pressure Gauge: the Pressure Gauge displays the output of pressure of the machine if block the smoke outlet port,otherwise it shows the real time pressure of the system been testing. Pressure Decay Tesing:this gauge can also be used to determine if a leak exists by switching of the air control while the system is uner pressure.if the guage holds the displayed pressure.if the gauge holds the displayed pressure,there is on leakage.if the displayed pressure starts drops,there is leakage in the system.

  • No Leak: Flow Meter drop to "0"and pressure reading raise to Max
  • Small Leak: Flow Meter stay between 0.1 to 0.5LPM.
  • Massive Leak：Flow Meter raise and pressure reading drop to "0".

 

Flow meter indicates the leak size:

  • P0456, the meter should be at 0.1 LPM EVAP for a .020 leak standard
  • P0442, the meter should be at 0.5 LPM EVAP for a .040 leak standard

 

Flow Dial: In many cases excesive smoke exiting a leak may make it difficult to the exact location of the leak.the purpose of the flow control valve is to decrease the amount of smoke exiting a leak so that its position may be pinpointed without the masking effect of excessive smoke.turn clockwise to decrease flow,counterclockwise to increase flow.this valve is also used to lock out the system under test and observe any pressure decay on the pressure gauge.

How to do leakage test with our evap smoke machine ?

  • Step 1 Fill (Baby Oil or mineral Oil based) smoke oil into the smoke machine. Note: The oil level shall not exceed the level gauge.
  • Step 2 Disconnect the pipes that need to be conneced with detector.
  • Step 3 Connect DC12V battery power to start the device.
  • Step 4 In about 30 seconds, the pipe will be filled with smoke. Check the leak points and use head lamp if necessary.

 

Warm Tips:

  • The oil level shall not exceed the level gauge and please do not exceed 15 ml when adding new oil later.
  • Please do not to operate the SM603 evap system smoke machine continuously for more than 8 minutes.
  • Before refilling new oil, please pour out the remaining oil in the detector, drain the old oil and then add new oil.
  • Use mineral oil based smoke oil, do NOT use water based liquid, water based liquid will heat up quickly and lead to overheating.
  • To ensure the safety of people and vehicles, the engine does not need to be ignited during use.
  • If your smoke machine's fumes are discharged from the top of the machine: please turn on the gas switch first, then power on.

The Function of operation components of the machine:

  • Oil Refill Port: for oil refill while its needed.the funnel is a nice helper to prevent oil from poured to the surface of the unit.
  • Smoke Outlet Port: while set up the unit,the smoke delivery hose need to be mounted onto the smoke outlet.
  • Velcro Strap: for collection of the smoke delivery hose, and power cord before storage.
  • Power socket:while set up the unit,the smoke cords need to be plug into the power socket.
  • Oil level gauge:while set up the unit, smoke oil need to be filled into the unit,do not exceed the MAX line.check and confirm proper oil level periodically. If the oil level is lower than the MINI line,the unit would need a refill.
  • Flow Meter: the purpose of flow meter is to provide a quick visual indication of the amount of smoke passing through the system being tested.if the smoke nozzle is in a closed system,and there is no leaks in that system,the flow meter will read zero (ball at bottom of scale)
