The significance of the pineapple in hospitality in early America -

Due to its seemingly exotic qualities & rareness, the pineapple soon became a symbol of hospitality in early America. Because trade routs between America and the Caribbean Islands were often slow and perilous, it was considered a significant achievement from a host to produce a ripe pineapple for guests. Enough so that it worked it’s way into decorating their establishments. The pineapple continues to be used as a symbol of hospitality to this day.
