Description:

Obsidian is formed as lava from volcanic eruptions cools within the earth. The speed at which it cools prevents crystallization and the rock forms as solid volcanic glass.

The most common colour of Obsidian is black. Many other types can also be found including Snowflake Obsidian, Mahogany Obsidian, Silver Sheen and Gold Sheen Obsidians and rarer forms such as Rainbow, Velvet and Fire Obsidians.

Mahogany obsidian is a deep reddish-brown with black inclusions. The distinctive colouring comes from high concentrations of iron.
