True Vintage Mid-century 1960s MOD Wedding Dress with a Story MCM OOAK Handmade -Used in 1968-

MEASUREMENTS IN PHOTOS!

This is a dress with a story....

This beautiful handmade dress was purchased from its original owner who was married in it in 1968. Her mother, who made the dress for her was a high regarded seamstress at the well-known & iconic (Now defunct) "Blum's Vogue" store in chicago, Illinois. (I added information on the Blum's Vogue Store below if you are interested)

The dress is in very good/excellent vintage condition. Handmade with love by the previous owner's mother who was an accomplished seamstress at Blum's Vogue Stire in chicago. The dress is ivory satin and lavishly trimmed in lace with large poofed button up sleeves and a high collar. A beautiful representation of a cutting edge 1968 wedding dress. The original metal zipper up the back works perfectly. All original satin covered buttons and elastic connectors are intact. The only imperfections I can find are a few light marks on the dress which can be seen in the last photo. (Photo #12) (I am not sure if these faint areas will release when dry cleaned) Honestly, they are hardly noticeable and I did not even see them until I inspected the dress inch by inch.  Btw, I know the dress has not been washed and if you read the next part of this description you will understand how I know this. :)

The sweetest partof this dress was a discovery I made while laying it flat for measurements. As I moved the dress in countless positions on the table to measure, I found small white particles on the table. When I picked one up and examined it a smile crossed my face when I realized what it was. It was rice that for decades rested in the lace hem of the dress.  It was the actual rice that was thrown at this newly married couple only moments after their vows were complete to wish them good luck on their matrimony. I gathered the rice up and put it in a small container and it will be included with the dress. I certainly think they should stay together. :-)

------Blum’s Vogue was a specialty department store founded by Harry and Becky Blum in Chicago in 1910. The original store was simply called Blum’s and was located in the Congress Hotel, then home to Sarah Bernhardt, Ethel Barrymore, and other famous theatrical stars of the day. Blum’s quickly became successful, and shortly thereafter the Blums opened a second store, Vogue, a few doors down. While Blum’s sold ready-to-wear clothes, Vogue sold custom-made garments. In 1924, the Blums bought their own building at 624 South Michigan Avenue and began extensive renovations. Finally, in 1930, they moved to their new premises and combined their two stores into one: Blum’s Vogue. The store was enormously successful, expanding to several locations in Chicago and eventually nationwide. It wasn’t until 1983 when the last store in the chain finally closed.
