A very hard to find example of a classic Christmas toy. This is a "MADE IN JAPAN" toy produced by the "Y" Yonewaza Co. It is a circa 1955 store display automation used to promote the sale of the many smaller sized versions. It measures approx 19 inches tall. The box measures approx 21 x 12 x 8 inches. A photo of this exact type of this toy and its box can be seen in SOTHEBY'S auction sale catalog 7580, December 9, 2000, titled, " IMPORTANT ROBOTS AND ANTIQUE TOYS FROM THE ESTATE OF F. H. GRIFFITH ". It is listed on page 115. The estimated sale price of the toy was $1200.00-$1800.00, as pictured, with box. The auction realized a final sale price of $840.00. The box is original and complete. It is in very good - excellent condition still retaining nice coloring. It does have a number of clear taped repairs and a small piece of the lid corner that has been repaired. The box bottom is perfect and comes with two of the original packaging inserts. This is a very nice example to display in any Kris Kringle, Saint Nicklaus, Belsnickle or Father Christmas themed toy collection or as a center piece of gifts and toys by your Christmas Tree. Quite rare and impressive. Other 50's & 60's mint & mib battery op & tin litho mechanical wind-up toys listed in auction & my EBAY store.
