The Capitol Regiment Band - The Greatest Hits Of John Philip Sousa (12" Vinyl LP).

Sleeve Has A Little Creasing.

Just as the name Johann Strauss is synonymous with the waltz, so is the name of John Philip Sousa synonymous with march music.
Generally accepted as the march king, Sousa was born in Washington D.C. in 1856 & the fact that he came from a musical family undoubtedly contributed to the talent that came to fruition in 1892 when, having been schooled in military music, he formed a military band that went under his own name. It was, of course, a tremendous success both in America & in Europe, where his tours became highlights of the military band platform.
Sousa died in 1932 leaving behind him a wealth of stirring music that even today still proves immensely popular.
This Album by the Capitol Regiment Band re-captures the qualities that made the music of Sousa so memorable in his own generation & so appealing in ours.
