1836 1ed Oceania Voyages Malaysia Polynesia Maps Captain
Cook Anson Rienzi 3v
Louis de Rienzi was a French 19th-century
traveler and author who following his personal voyages wrote the 1836
masterwork, ‘Oceania, or Fifth Part of the World.’ Contained
within is a compilation of the voyages of James Cook, George Anson, and
Bougainville which are then supplemented by Rienzi’s own travels. According to
Nunc Broc this work was
“…quite
successful. The book makes more room for history than for geography. If the
exotic flora and fauna are not neglected, the author is particularly interested
in customs of the natives.”
This set features folding maps of the South
Pacific Islands including Australia, Malaysia, Borneo as well as illustrated
views of native people and their customs. It also includes original musical
scores with text.
